[History]:

Following the Partial Test Ban Treaty's signing, Dr. Kyohei Yamane started up "Project Warmonger", a secretive movement created by the paleontologist in order to create suitable defenses for which to combat the possible threat posed by non-standard P.E.M.F.s; in particular, the program's main focus subject was the entity currently referred to as "Godzilla".

A multitude of different sub-projects within the group sprang up over time, each with the purpose of either defending against such creatures, or facilitating safer and more extensive research into their biology. One of the earliest projects was a massive submersible vessel.

The idea came about when one of Dr. Yamane's colleagues brought up the concern about Godzilla residing in the deepest areas of the world's oceans, and how Humanity's equipment couldn't properly detect him. It was from that concern that the main group heading the movement decided upon creating an enormous and heavily-fortified submarine that could penetrate those depths and search for Godzilla.

Construction began just a few months after the treaty was signed that halted the disguised nuclear bombings in the Pacific, in the group's main base of operations: Antarctica.

It was there that the vessel would be built up, initially as an approximate 400 meter submersible. However, over time, it became apparent that a much more formidable submersible was required. The vessel's size was increased greatly, nearing completion by the mid-90s.

However, as time passed, members of Project Warmonger began to doubt the return of Godzilla, or others like him. Interest in the project, as well as many others, began to wane, and eventually, everything was abandoned.

But everything changed when the P.E.M.F.s attacked.

It was at that point that one of the few remaining descendant members, a young Jiro Ifukube, revived the project and immediately began the process of refitting and improving upon the vessel's initial designs with modern technology. However, with the advent of the first Warmongers, his hands became tied as he commanded them in the war against the P.E.M.F.s, slowing progress on the submersible carrier.

By the time World War III ended, construction was nearly complete, with the vessel now intended to serve as a massive carrier for deployment of Warmonger units. However, a treaty that ruled that all Warmongers were to be put into storage and deactivated ended the vessel's construction, leaving it incomplete, although not by a large margin.

Despite all this, in the current second conflict against the returning P.E.M.F.s, the submersible carrier, named "Janjira" after an unfortunate nuclear meltdown in the Japanese city of the same name, remains a backup option in case any unexpected conditions arise from the second conflict.
In this lore entry, we see the gigantic submarine from Colossus By Design: Entry 0136 - Trust No One (Hint: It links to some backstory and Godzilla :D)
